What is PRP?
Platelet Rich Plasma, known as PRP, is blood plasma containing concentrated growth factors and other bioactive proteins that stimulate growth in hair follicles. The growth factors found in PRP serve as a safe, natural and effective option for hair restoration in both men and women. A quick blood draw will allow us to isolate your own plasma and infuse it into areas exhibiting hair loss.
What Is the Treatment Protocol?
For most cases, a treatment plan of 3-4 PRP sessions is recommended
(1 treatment per month followed by maintenance treatments every 4-6 months)*
Who Can Get PRP?
Almost anyone seeking hair restoration could potentially be a candidate for PRP. Below we’ve separated it out:
- Males with hair loss resulting in balding or hair thinning
- For female patients, a mandatory blood test is required to assess the causation of hair loss and PRP efficacy.
What Can You Expect During Treatment?
PRP treatments are simple in-office treatments, lasting around 45 minutes and requiring little to no downtime. Here are the steps of treatment:
- A quick blood draw
- Isolate your blood plasma using a centrifuge to separate out the growth factors
- Lightly inject the separated PRP into the areas where baldness or thinning is occurring
What Can You Expect After Treatment?
PRP is a nonsurgical treatment with little to no downtime. You will be able to go about your day as you normally would. No one will know you just had PRP!
Specific aftercare instructions will be given to you by your board-certified dermatologist, but you can generally wash and style your hair within 24-hours of treatment. You should follow the specific instructions given to you by your provider for best results.*
By taking pre-treatment photos and monitoring your response to PRP therapy, we demonstrate our dedication to your hair growth success. Based on clinical studies by the manufacturers of PRP, it is recommended to wait 6 months after your 3rd treatment to see the full effect of the procedure.
FDA cleared 510(K) Class II medical devices. Eclipse PRP is intended for the safe and rapid preparation of autologous platelet-rich plasma from a small sample of blood taken from the patient at the point of care. Although the FDA has not approved the indicated use of PRP for androgenetic alopecia, California Skin Institute has utilized the technology and treatment protocol with great success and safety.
